Brunch for a Bunch Recipe Contest 2010

Sponsored by the Virginia Egg Council

What Constitutes a Brunch for a Bunch Recipe?

This contest truly shows the versatility of eggs. We’re looking for interesting and delicious recipes, using eggs, which might be served at brunch. The possibilities are endless so we’re expecting Virginia’s clever cooks to come up with some really special creations.

Any recipe you might serve at brunch and uses a minimum of 6 eggs is appropriate.

Recipes must include but not necessarily highlight eggs. For example, a savory cheesecake includes 6-7 eggs, but also includes cheese, possibly ham or some veggies -- it includes eggs, but you aren’t seeing an egg when you look at it. Other brunch recipes might showcase eggs more visibly-like baked eggs and Boursin cheese in individual filo cups. Some folks might serve a very special deviled egg recipe at brunch and that would work. Frittatas, quiches and the myriad breakfast casseroles (some savory with meat and cheese and some sweet with fruit and nuts) are all acceptable.

We’re convinced that Virginia cooks are the best and we’re egg-cited about the possibilities this contest presents.

So go through your recipe files and enter this delicious contest!

Note: Coffee Cakes, Breads or Any Dry Baked Items should be brought in on regular entry day. (Sept. 5)

Attention: Due to lack of refrigeration items such as breakfast casseroles, quiches or meat and cheese products etc. must be brought in a cooler ready for judging on Monday, Sept. 6 at 9 AM - 10 AM. Judging at 10:30 AM.

Recipe Requirements
• The recipe must be something that might be served at breakfast/brunch/lunch (brunch) and must include a minimum of 6 whole eggs.
• Ingredients must be listed in the order of use.
• Directions, cooking time, temperature and pan type and size must be included.
• If sauces or dressings are served with item, those recipes must be included.
• Recipes will become the property of the Virginia Egg Council.
• Recipes will be prepared and presented for judging at local county fairs.*

Prizes at Local Fair Level
1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive gift bags (including EB Eggs for 1st place) and a chance to compete for top state honors at the State Fairgrounds this fall.

Prizes at State Level
1st - $375 plus a year’s supply of Eggland’s Best Eggs
2nd-$200 plus 6 months’ supply of Eggland’s Best Eggs
3rd-$125 plus 6 months’ supply of Eggland’s Best Eggs

No Competition at your Local Fair?
You may compete at another county fair. Participant may compete in one contest, one time.
*Fairs that do not have re-heating capabilities may chose to hold this contest off-site or limit it to written recipes only, or visual judging only.
